Porsche has so many great and iconic cars that there wouldn’t be enough space in out studio to place them all.
Here I have selected only a couple of interesting beauties. This is the very first car under the Porsche brand – Porsche 356/1 produced in 1948 and Porsche 804 F1 from 1962. Symbolizes the embodiment of Dr. Ferdinand’s idea from truly HIS OWN first car to Porsche’s first victory in the Grand Prix. It only took them 14 years.
However, 356/1 was brought to life not by Ferninand the First, but by his son, Ferdinand Ferry Porsche. All components were borrowed from the Bettle. The car had a 1.1 liter engine with about 35 hp.
In my opinion, one of Porsche’s greatest achievements was the Porsche’s path from 1957 to 1962 to archive the victory in the F1 Grand Prix. Porsche 550, which started the road to the Grand Prix, led Porsche through several new iterations of the car to its apotheosis – the Porsche 804, which, driven by Dan Gurney with number 30, won 1st place at the French Grand Prix in Rouen, and a week later another victory, but at a non-championship stage, in Germany near their native Stuttgart at the Solitude Grand Prix. Also driven by Dan Gurney, but with number 10 on the car. A bit later at the German Grand Prix on the Eifel ring, the Porsche 804 with Dan Gurney started from pole position, but the more powerful BRM of Graham Hill overtook him. Gurney, in order not to spoil the race, which took place in rainy conditions, slowed down and lost second place to John Surtees in the Lotus. However, at the finish line the gap between the three cars was only 4.5 seconds.
Porsche, having achieved their goal of winning the GP, left the Big Races with factory team. Private drivers also raced the 718 F1, but that’s a completely different story.
Compared to the 356/1, the 804 already had a high-revving 8-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.5 liters and a power of about 185 hp. Pretty awesome for 460kg weight. And back in 1962, Porsche 804 race cars was already equipped with a 6-speed gearbox! This is simply fantastic.
I also have other Porsche cars that are iconic to me, which I will show later. But consider 804 as the coolest embodiment of ideas – “I see a goal – I’m going towards the goal.”
About the models:
- 356/1 from Minichamps. It was extremely difficult to find. There is a similar version from someone else, but with worse light lenses. Some versions have normal lenses, but without the letter A on the back left. Others have Porsche anniversary logos. And this model is clean.
- 804 #30 – True Scale miniature. Purchased as one of the first models alongside with 718 and 804 #10. Like it!
