The Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar is a legendary rally car that conquered the grueling 14,000-kilometer (8,575 miles) Paris-Dakar Rally in 1986. In that race, the 959 finished second, driven by Jacky Ickx and Claude Brasseur, right behind the winning French team of René Metge and Dominique Lemoyne, who were also in an identical 95912. The all-wheel-drive 959 handled the diverse conditions of Africa’s deserts and savannahs with ease, achieving speeds of up to 210 km/h. The engineers transformed the 959 into a rally car by reinforcing the suspension, fitting all-terrain tires, and using an electro-hydraulically controlled center differential for variable power distribution between the front and rear axles
